It's time to reimagine travel for the unimaginable.
After an unprecedented drop in March, travel searches are starting to rebound in the form of inspiration-seeking for short trips.1

So they’re looking into outdoor destinations and travel options that give them more control.2
“Camping near me” is more popular than it’s ever been.3
National parks and wilderness areas are topping travelers’ lists.4
And they’re all over the map.
Not-so-distant shores beckon travelers seeking open air.
Top Water Sports trends show they’re sailing solo or in small groups.5
This year, we started planning our outdoor winter escapes in the middle of summer. Searches in the category “winter travel destinations” grew by 30% year over year6 and “ski lodges and resorts” by 30% month over month.7
Among the most popular 2020 travel destinations are ski lodges and resorts.8
Notably, many are within driving distance of major U.S. metro areas.
“The only travel I’ll be doing is very sparse [low crowd density] national parks and hiking far away from other people.”
Traveler confidence has come a long way since March. Rising search trends tell us that we’re still eager to travel, just as long as we can keep each other safe. That makes “the near outdoors” likely to be 2020’s most popular vacation destination.
